OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a tailored ChatGPT Work experience designed to help financial institutions develop research, financial models and customised client materials. The product combines built-in financial data with GPT-6 Astra’s reasoning capabilities and is initially focused on investment banking and equity research.

The product was shaped through design partnerships with Morgan Stanley and Evercore, with OpenAI saying the collaboration helped identify challenges around access to reliable financial data and the creation of high-quality work products. The company plans to use the partnerships to inform further product development and expansion into other areas of financial services.

This gives us a strong opening because it establishes the actual announcement first, then brings in the financial-institution angle rather than starting with generic claims about AI transforming finance.

ChatGPT for Financial Services Brings Financial Data into AI Workflows

A central part of ChatGPT for Financial Services is its access to financial data and research tools within the same workflow. OpenAI says the product includes premium datasets from Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase, covering areas such as earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals, private companies, funding, investors and acquisitions. The data is indexed and hosted on OpenAI infrastructure, with citations designed to help users trace figures and claims back to their underlying sources.

The company is also working with existing subscription providers including S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva and Moody’s to support shared sign-in and entitlement integrations. This would allow firms to access data they already subscribe to through their ChatGPT environment rather than establishing separate access arrangements. OpenAI also says its broader connector ecosystem includes more than 50 connectors, covering platforms such as Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet and Intapp.

Underneath these data connections, ChatGPT for Financial Services uses GPT-6 Astra for information retrieval, financial reasoning and artifact generation. OpenAI says the model can work with financial figures, tables and supporting notes, conduct analysis and turn the resulting work into documents, spreadsheets and presentations. The product is therefore designed to carry financial work from research and analysis into the materials teams use in their day-to-day workflows.

Enterprise Controls Support Financial Institutions

Beyond research and analysis, ChatGPT for Financial Services is designed to fit within the controlled environments used by financial institutions. OpenAI says administrators can publish Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates through a dedicated management page, allowing firms to configure approved formats and style guides for outputs such as valuation models, research notes and pitchbooks.

The product also builds on ChatGPT Enterprise security and governance controls, including SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning and role-based access controls. OpenAI says business data is not used to train its models by default and is encrypted both at rest and in transit, while administrators can configure workspace retention. Compliance teams can also export supported workspace logs through the OpenAI Compliance Platform for use in existing audit and investigation workflows.

OpenAI says firms can additionally manage access to skills and applications by role and create multiple workspaces to support information barriers. The company has positioned ChatGPT for Financial Services as one part of a broader effort to serve financial institutions, with developers and financial firms able to use its API to build more specialized applications. The product is currently available to eligible financial institutions.

Taken together, the announcement places ChatGPT for Financial Services within existing financial workflows rather than presenting it solely as a standalone generative AI tool. Its combination of financial data, analysis capabilities, workflow outputs and enterprise controls is initially aimed at investment banking and equity research, with OpenAI indicating plans to expand into additional financial-services categories.
