Mastercard and Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) have collaborated together to develop Bangladesh’s first biometric metal credit card. This is a significant leap forward for digital payments in the nation.

The ultra-premium World Elite Mastercard portfolio includes this biometric metal credit card, which was shown in Dhaka on July 5, 2025. It sports a sleek metal design that includes fingerprint identification technology, so users can make transactions in stores without requiring PINs or signatures.

The biometric system powering the biometric metal credit card was created in partnership with IDEX Biometrics, Kona I, and Infineon Technologies, and all fingerprint data is encrypted and kept securely on the card itself to keep it safe from outside access and fraud. Eastern Bank makes onboarding easier by giving clients a home-registration kit that lets them register their fingerprints from anywhere, so they don’t have to go to a bank.

In addition to its strong security, the card comes with Mastercard Identity Theft Protection, which keeps an eye on online behaviour for any breaches and sends notifications to consumers before they happen.

Mastercard’s Priceless Specials platform gives cardholders access to a number of premium advantages. Some of them include free hotel stays, fine meals in Asia Pacific, unique rooftop access at Marina Bay Sands’ CÉ LA VI in Singapore, and access to more than 46 premier golf courses, including those on the PGA TOUR. Flexiroam lets you use your phone across the globe, Hertz gives you savings on auto rentals, Uniworld river cruise tickets are $1,000 less, and you can get elite status faster with hotel loyalty programs like Wyndham Rewards and GHA DISCOVERY.

Mastercard’s LoungeKey program gives you free access to more than 1,300 airport lounges throughout the globe, as well as the option to enter domestic lounges in Bangladesh. This makes travel even better. You may also get help with travel or lifestyle requirements from a concierge service that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Mastercard’s worldwide documents say that biometric payment cards may be used without making any adjustments to current EMV terminals or ATMs. These cards are presently available in more than 70 countries. With the introduction in Bangladesh, EBL became the first company to provide a biometric metal card for sale. This puts the nation at the forefront of payment innovation in developing markets.

Only premium clients of Eastern Bank can purchase this biometric metal credit card. Mastercard’s goal is to extend biometric metal cards over the world, and the release of this card in mid-2025 fits in with that goal. They are working with manufacturing leaders like Kona I and biometric pioneers like IDEX Biometrics to make this happen.
